Whenever I hire an editorial intern for Arizona Highways, I approach the process with a bit of trepidation—always a bit nervous about what talents or lack thereof the new hire might bring to the team. When I hired Jodi Amick, that nervousness turned to sheer delight. A gifted writer, a talented interviewer and a patient researcher, Jodi is an asset to any editorial staff. At Arizona Highways, she quickly proved that “hit the ground running” isn’t just some silly idiom. In fact, she was ready to tackle any assignment I threw at her—from interviewing B-list celebrities, to writing about black widow spiders and hikes among wildflowers. She crafted her voice to appeal to our unique readership and carefully considered the feedback she received. Additionally, Jodi’s wit, clever personality and strong character make her someone that I consider a friend, not just a tremendous young writer/editor.

This letter is my personal recommendation for Jodi Amick. I worked with Jodi as her Store Manager at David’s Bridal from 2008 to 2014. I found her to be a creative and astute business person. During our association, Jodi demonstrated an incredible initiative and a strong dedication to work product as well as being an effective communicator. Jodi demonstrated excellent leadership qualifications and made some very good business decisions on how to market and improve the business. She leads by example and people have found her enthusiasm and dedication both inspiring and motivating. Jodi worked hard to build authentic relationships with her team members and customers and expanded her business profile in addition to better earnings for her company. All of the attributes Jodi demonstrated at David’s Bridal she also brings with her to journalism. I highly recommend Jodi Amick for any leadership position.

I am privileged to write in support of my dear student, Jodi Amick. Jodi studied in my Graphic Design class and studio for one semester, during which time I witnessed great growth and development. This development came not only in the area of design achievement but also in responsibility and creativity as well. Jodi was good with managing her time, working under strict deadlines, and had strong work ethic, intellectual integrity as well as curiosity and interest in design. I recommend Jodi to you with confidence. I am sure she will accommodate and be of good assistance to your business and beyond.

Dear Hiring Team,
It is with great pleasure that Irecommend Jodi Amick to you. I have known Mrs. Amick for five years both as a student and as an employee. She was stellar in both roles. As a student journalist, Mrs. Amick was an outstanding student, seeking to excel in her studies. She maintained a high GPA while working on the campus newspapers at both Glendale Community College and Arizona State University. As the past associate director of ASU’s Student Media, I can tell you that balancing school and the State Press work assignments are no small feat for any student journalist. Mrs. Amick not only accomplished that, but she also sought certificates in ethics and a minor in philosophy along the way. As an employee, Mrs. Amick was one of the best student workers I have had. When I first came to Glendale Community College from Arizona State University, I discovered that although GCC had a good college newspaper, the processes were lacking in organization. Mrs. Amick and I worked together to develop strong processes and organize the staff so that it ran much more efficiently and with higher quality standards. Mrs. Amick was also an integral part in setting up a profitable advertising program for the newspaper. Within short order, the newspaper was making twice as much as it needed to support itself, partially due to her efficient assistance. Mrs. Amick’s resume shows that she is not only a great student, but she knows the importance of internships and getting published. During her time at ASU, she was published in Blue Guitar Magazine, West Valley Magazine, the State Press and served as an intern at Arizona Highways Magazine. I think she would be an extraordinary addition to your company. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me personally.
